Safety training on the shop floor: lessons from utilities
How two power-sector customers rolled out mobile-first safety training to 4,200 line workers across 18 sub-stations — and what we changed in the product as a result.

Most L&D leaders we talk to assume their learners are the problem. They’re not. After 18 months of shipping Learnify with customers across BFSI, power, retail and government, a pattern emerged that has very little to do with motivation — and almost everything to do with how training is structured, surfaced and measured.
The data on engagement
We pulled completion data across 27 Learnify deployments and one number kept showing up: 64% of all module completions happen in the first 72 hours after assignment. After day 3, attention falls off a cliff. By day 14, most teams have lost their cohort.
That is not a willpower problem. It’s a design problem — and a system problem. Your learners are not deciding between “take the safety module” or “watch Netflix.” They’re deciding between “take the safety module” or “answer the next customer email.”
Field note
When we moved one NBFC customer’s annual compliance from 12-month windows to rolling 30-day windows, completion went from 41% → 92% in two quarters. Same content. Same learners. Different cadence.
Where most LMS roll-outs stall
Three things consistently kill engagement on day 4:
- Friction at sign-in. If learners need a password they don’t remember, they’re gone. SSO is not optional.
- Long, linear modules. A 45-minute video block is a no-go on the shop floor or between meetings.
- No proof of progress. If learners don’t see “you’re 60% through,” they assume zero.
Seven moves that work
The good news: every one of these is fixable in the first quarter, and you don’t need to rebuild your content library to do it.
- Cut every module to under 9 minutes; split anything longer.
- Move from annual due-dates to rolling 30-day windows.
- Add SSO before you do anything else.
- Show a personal completion ring on the home dashboard.
- Trigger an in-app nudge at 80% completion, not at 0%.
- Reward streaks publicly — but never punish breaks.
- Give managers a one-screen team view; remove every other report from rotation.
How Learnify automates them
Most of the above is in the product by default. The 9-minute split is suggested by our AI co-pilot. The rolling windows are a switch in admin settings. The completion ring, the nudges and the manager view ship pre-built — your team turns them on.
The hard part has always been the change management around L&D, not the tooling. That’s where our customer success team — backed by HabileLabs’ consulting muscle — runs roll-outs with you, not at you.
